Google and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have officially announced a partnership to develop about 100 self-driving prototype vehicles based on FCA's Pacifica minivan, Bloomberg is reporting.
Fiat will not be licensing any of Google's self-driving technology for their own vehicles, but will simply be providing the technology conglomerate with minivans to be part of their test fleet.
Driving your own car; soon to be a thing of the past?
Instead of simply retrofitting the vans (as Google has previously done with the Lexus RX), FCA will be performing custom modifications on the Pacifica's before turning them over to Google to be equipped with their autonomous driving gear.
The Bloomberg report specifies that this is not an exclusive partnership for either company, and the minivans will be used as part of Google's test fleet only.
